The Philadelphia Flyers appeared to protest the NHL's jersey tuck rule during warm-ups on Saturday.
Multiple Flyers players took the ice before a game against the Washington Capitals with their jerseys tucked in in apparent solidarity with teammate Trevor Zegras. Zegras was penalized for improperly wearing equipment after his jersey was tucked in during a game against the Boston Bruins earlier in the week.
Captain Sean Couturier, star forward Travis Konecny and Zegras himself were among those with their jerseys tucked in during the warm-up.
The NHL's equipment rules require all players to begin a shift with their uniform not tucked into their pants. Players will be warned by officials after a first infraction and will be penalized if caught a second time.
The rule isn't new to the NHL, but the league has told teams it will be enforcing it more strictly this season than in the past.
“My jersey was tucked in before the shift,” Zegras said after the Bruins game. “So after a warning, they said that's an automatic penalty. I started the game obviously with it tucked because that's how I usually play.”
The Flyers' protest on Saturday appears to have been just during warm-ups, as all players had their jerseys on properly once the game started.
