Cates logged 37 points in 78 games (16 goals and 21 assists) last season. He was fifth on the Flyers in goals and seventh in points.
The 26-year-old left winger has played 235 career games with the Flyers, registering 40 goals and 62 assists
Before his time in the NHL, Cates played four years in NCAA with Minnesota Duluth. He won the NCAA championship (2019), and represented the U.S. world juniors (2019) and Olympics (2022).
The Flyers selected Cates in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with Philadelphia on April 22, 2022.
