Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere has been suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for boarding Pittsburgh Penguins blue-liner Mark Friedman.
The incident occurred with around four minutes remaining in Tuesday night’s 7-3 Penguins win when Friedman scored an empty-net goal, Pittsburgh’s sixth of the game. Gostisbehere shoved Friedman in the back after the defenceman scored, sending Friedman crashing into the end boards.
A scrum ensued after the play and Gostisbehere was assessed a two-minute penalty for cross-checking.
