The Philadelphia Flyers are putting heavy pressure on the Anaheim Ducks.
The Flyers tendered a five-year, $90-million offer sheet to Ducks star Leo Carlsson, the team announced on Friday.
If the Ducks choose not to match, they would receive four first-round picks from the Flyers in compensation. Anaheim has seven days to decide whether it will match.
Carlsson, 22, is coming off a breakout season in which he scored 29 goals and 67 points to help the Anaheim Ducks return to the playoffs for the first time in eight years. He added 11 points in 12 playoff games as the Ducks reached the second round.
The Ducks selected Carlsson second overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. He was selected to play for Sweden at the Winter Olympics but missed the tournament due to injury.
Once signed, Carlsson's $18 million AAV would be the top mark in the league, surpassing the eight-year, $136 million extension ($17-million AAV) signed by Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild.
This is the second offer sheet to come in the last few days, with the New Jersey Devils looking to sign Utah Mammoth forward Barrett Hayton, offering a one-year, $4.775-million deal.
Philadelphia is no stranger to making offer sheets as it attempted to sign Shea Weber from the Nashville Predators with a massive 14-year, $110-million offer in 2012. The Predators ended up matching the contract.
In 2024, the St. Louis Blues made a bold double offer-sheet play to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, which the Edmonton Oilers did not match.
