Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk will undergo surgery for a broken finger, coach John Tortorella told reporters on Tuesday.
Tortorella did not provide a timeline for van Riemsdyk's return.
Van Riemsdyk exited Sunday's game against the San Jose Sharks in the first period after blocking a shot.
The six-foot-three van Riemsdyk has two goals and three assists for five points in six games this season.
With the Flyers for a second stint (he was picked second overall by Philly in 2007), van Riemsdyk has 567 points (290 goals, 277 assists) in 885 career games with Philadelphia and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
