Jesse Puljujarvi has joined the Pittsburgh Penguins on a tryout, the club announced on Sunday.
The former fourth-overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in 2016 became a free agent after the Carolina Hurricanes opted not to qualify him in the summer, despite acquiring him at last season's trade deadline.
Puljujärvi, 25, had double hip surgery in the summer and has been working toward a return.
The Swedish-born, Finnish forward has struggled to live up to expectations over his six NHL seasons, scoring 51 goals and 63 assists in 334 games.
