There's a change of plans for Gavin McKenna.
After originally planning to suit up for Canada at the world championship this month in Switzerland, McKenna no longer will make the trip ahead of next month's NHL Draft, sources confirm to Sportsnet.
McKenna is projected to be the top pick in the draft on June 26 in Buffalo. The Toronto Maple Leafs won the first-overall pick in Tuesday's NHL Draft Lottery.
The NHL Draft Combine is scheduled for May 31-June 6 in Buffalo. The world championship runs May 15-31 in Switzerland.
The Whitehorse native, 18, recently completed his freshman season at Penn State, where he notched 15 goals and 36 assists in 35 games.
McKenna has played for Canada at the world junior championship the past two years.
