Golden Knights' Alex Pietrangelo added to NHL's COVID-19 protocol list

Brayden Schenn scores the shootout winner and the St. Louis Blues came away with a 5-4 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Alex Pietrangelo was added to the NHL's COVID-19 list on Thursday, hours after a game between the Golden Knights and St. Louis Blues was postponed due to some positive COVID-19 results within the Vegas organization.

There are multiple factors that can lead to a player being added to the COVID-19 protocol list, including an initial positive test that requires follow-up confirmation, mandatory isolation for persons exhibiting symptoms, required quarantine after being a high-risk close contact of another individual who received a positive test, isolation after a confirmed positive test result, and quarantine for travel.

In a statement earlier Thursday, the NHL said a Vegas player and another coach have entered COVID-19 protocol. On Tuesday, the team's entire coaching staff was isolated after a positive COVID-19 test among that group. Despite that, the team took the ice against the Blues in a 5-4 shootout loss with general manager Kelly McCrimmon and some AHL coaches stepping behind the bench.

The Golden Knights are next scheduled to play on Feb. 1 and 3 in Arizona against the San Jose Sharks.

According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, Devils goaltender Aaron Dell and Kings winger Andreas Athanasiou were also added to the COVID-19 list.
