The Vegas Golden Knights lost one of their veteran defenceman to an ejection early in Game 5.
Brayden McNabb was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for interference after a hit that injured Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Poehling midway through the first period on Tuesday.
The penalty occurred along the boards near the Ducks blue line, with McNabb drilling Poehling hard into the boards. Poehling was in visible distress after the hit and had to be helped off the ice. The major penalty was confirmed after a video review.
The Ducks announced at the start of the second period that Poehling would not return due to an upper-body injury. Coach Joel Quenneville did not have an update on his condition after the game.
Ducks rookie Beckett Sennecke scored on the ensuing power play to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead but the Golden Knights ultimately won the game 3-2 in overtime to take a 3-2 series lead.
