Nicolas Roy's night was cut short on Thursday.
Five minutes into the first overtime period on Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights defenceman was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic up high.
It happened as Roy and Frederic were battling for the puck along the boards. The puck briefly flew in the air, and Roy made a motion with his stick towards it, but made contact with Frederic's face instead.
The Oilers winger immediately went down on the ice, bleeding visibly. Roy was assessed the major penalty, which was upheld upon automatic review. The Oilers did not score on the following five-minute power play.
Frederic remained in the game.
