The Capitals have found their replacement for Darcy Kuemper.
Washington acquired goaltender Logan Thompson from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for the 83rd overall pick this year and a 2025 third-round pick, the team announced Saturday.
Thompson, 27, had a solid season for Vegas, putting up a 2.70 GAA, 0.908 save percentage and a 25-14-5 record in 46 regular season games. He also had a 2.35 GAA, 0.921 save percentage and 2-1-1 record in four playoff games over the course of a seven-game series loss to the Dallas Stars.
The Calgary native went undrafted in 2019 and made his NHL debut with the Golden Knights in the 2020-21 season. Since then, he's made 107 appearances in the big leagues with a career 2.66 GAA and 0.912 save percentage.
The Capitals traded away incumbent netminder Darcy Kuemper earlier this off-season, sending him to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
