K’Andre Miller is leaving the only NHL team he has ever known.
The New York Rangers traded the defenceman to the Carolina Hurricanes, the teams announced Tuesday.
According to a press release, the Hurricanes are sending the Rangers a conditional first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick and defenceman Scott Morrow in return.
As part of the trade, Carolina has locked up Miller to an eight-year deal worth $60 million.
The six-foot-five Miller, 25, entered the off-season as a restricted free agent and now will earn $7.5 million per season on his new deal.
The move also comes after the Rangers signed veteran Vladislav Gavrikov to a seven-year, $49-million deal in free agency.
A first-round pick (22nd overall) by the Rangers in the 2018 NHL Draft, Miller has 36 goals and 96 assists for 132 points in 368 career games.
The University of Wisconsin product was a member of the NHL’s All-Rookie Team in 2021.
