Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Brett Pesce has been fined $5,000 for a “dangerous trip” on Detroit Red Wings forward Robby Fabbri, the league announced Thursday.
The incident in question occurred five minutes into the second period of the clubs’ game on Thursday as Pesce, while skating behind Fabbri, used his right leg to sweep Fabbri’s left out from under him, sending the forward to the ice.
Pesce was assessed a minor penalty for the incident — his Hurricanes went on to win 5-2.
His $5,000 fine is the maximum allowable under the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. The sum will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
