After a short stint in the AHL, Joel Nystrom is back in Carolina
The Hurricanes' rookie defenceman has been recalled, and centre Noah Philip has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 6, the team announced Friday.
Nystrom has no goals and eight assists in 33 games for the Hurricanes this season. The Swedish national signed a four-year, $4.9 million contract with Carolina in December.
Nystrom was a seventh-round pick by Carolina in 2021.
Philip, meanwhile, has played just two games for the Hurricanes this season, recording no points. He spent his first two NHL seasons with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Hurricanes host the defending champion Florida Panthers on Friday at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT. You can catch that game on Sportsnet Ontario or stream on Sportsnet+.
