Hurricanes relentlessly troll winless Canadiens amid Kotkaniemi's return

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi scores a goal in his first game against his former team the Montreal Canadiens since signing an offer sheet in the offseason.

Could it get any worse for the Montreal Canadiens and their fans?

First, the Carolina Hurricanes handcuffed them in an act of revenge with a $6.1-million offer sheet to 2018 third-overall pick Jesperi Kotkaniemi and barraged them with an all-time troll job.

Then, the Canadiens decided not to match and opted to trade for centre Christian Dvorak with the compensation -- he has one point through five games.

Finally, Kotkaniemi and the Canes came to town Thursday night to face the 0-4 Canadiens... Perfect time to get in the win category, right? What could go wrong?

The Hurricanes took a 2-1 lead into the third period, and of course, Kotkaniemi scored his first for his new team midway through the frame to make it 3-1. As soon as the puck crossed the line, the Hurricanes' Twitter account was more than ready to rub salt in Habs fans' wounds.

The Canadiens dealt with it a little differently:

And the Hurricanes didn't stop trolling there. Once Carolina sealed the 4-1 victory, its Twitter account unleashed a barrage.

The Hurricanes host the Canadiens on Dec. 30 for their next matchup.
