The Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday that they have signed Swedish defenceman Joel Nystrom to a two-year, entry-level contract.
Nystrom, 21, will receive $832,500 at the NHL level and $80,000 at the AHL level in both years of the deal and is receiving a signing bonus of $185,000.
Playing with Farjestad BK in the Swedish Hockey League in 2023-24, Nystrom scored eight goals and 26 points in 51 games, finishing tied for fifth in goals and tied for ninth in points among defencemen.
“Joel is a right-shot defenseman with offensive upside,” said Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell. “He has continued to improve year over year in the SHL, and we’re thrilled for him to take the next steps in his development.”
