Hurricanes sign defenceman Pierre-Olivier Joseph to one-year contract

Pierre-Olivier Joseph is going from worst to first.

The defenceman signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the reigning-champion Carolina Hurricanes, the team announced on Tuesday.

Joseph spent all of last season with the league-worst Vancouver Canucks, playing 31 games and tallying six points (one goal, five assists).

The 27-year-old from Laval, Que., entered the NHL as a first-round pick (23rd overall) of the Arizona Coyotes in 2017, but never played for the franchise.

In 225 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Canucks, he has nine goals and 37 assists.
