The Carolina Hurricanes have reached an eight-year contract extension with Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The deal carries a $4.82-million average annual value.

Kotkaniemi was acquired by the Hurricanes back in September after he signed a one-year, $6.1 million offer sheet which the Montreal Canadiens decided not to match. In his first season with the hurricanes, the 21-year-old has 11 goals and 23 points.

The Canadiens selected Kotkaniemi with the third overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
