The Carolina Hurricanes are working on a three-year extension with head coach Rod Brind'Amour, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman reports that Brind'Amour is expected to make around $1.8 million per season as part of the new contract.
Brind'Amour has been at the helm of the Hurricanes since 2018. In the 2020-21 season, he has coached Carolina to the No. 1 seed in the Central Division with a 36-10-8 record, good for 80 points with two regular-season games remaining. He's the first coach to lead the team into the post-season for three consecutive seasons.
An Ottawa native, Brind'Amour played 10 of his 21 seasons with the Hurricanes before moving behind the bench in 2011, as an assistant and development coach in Carolina. He replaced Bill Peters as head coach in May 2018.
A two-time Selke Trophy winner and Stanley Cup champion in 2006, Brind'Amour had his No. 17 jersey retired by the Hurricanes in 2011, shortly after he transitioned from player to the front office.
