Bo Horvat's night appears to have come to an early end.
The New York Islanders centre left Thursday's contest against the Anaheim Ducks after taking an awkward fall midway through the second period.
Horvat was seen tracking a loose puck when his right skate got tangled with Ducks defenceman Drew Helleson, leading to his spill onto the ice.
The 30-year-old from London, Ont., made his way off the ice and into the Islanders' locker room after the play. He left the game with two shots on net through 10:01 of ice time.
The Islanders later ruled him out with a lower-body injury, and head coach Patrick Roy described the centre's status as day-to-day moving forward when speaking to reporters post-game.
Horvat has yet to miss a game for New York this season, racking up a team-best 31 points through 31 appearances entering Thursday — eight more than Matthew Barzal, who ranks second. Horvat's 19 goals are also tied for third most in the NHL this season.
Losing the 12-year veteran would undoubtedly be a loss for a New York squad looking to continue its hot play of late. The Islanders won four of their last five games entering Thursday, sitting third in the Metropolitan Division with a 17-11-3 record.
