One day after being named to the Canadian Olympic team, Bo Horvat is dealing with some adversity.
The New York Islanders centre exited in the third period of a loss to the Utah Mammoth on Thursday after a collision with Utah's Sean Durzi in the neutral zone. Horvat was hunched over on the bench in pain after the hit and then limped to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
Head coach Patrick Roy had no update on Horvat after the game, but told reporters the centre would see a doctor on Friday.
Horvat was one of four forwards not on Canada's 4 Nations Face-Off squad to crack the 25-player Olympic roster.
“So many emotions going through my mind of pride and joy,” Horvat said on a Zoom call with media on Wednesday, per the New York Post. “Just honestly disbelief, too, at some point. Still hasn’t really sunk in yet. I’m just so honoured and privileged to be in this situation.”
The 30-year-old native of London, Ont., has 21 goals and 12 assists in 36 games this season.
A two-time NHL all-star, Horvat has represented Canada twice at the world championship and played for the country at the world junior championship in 2014.
