The New York Islanders have placed defenceman Adam Pelech on long-term injured reserve, the club announced on Saturday morning.
The 29-year-old from Toronto played only 55 seconds of Friday night's 5-3 win in Ottawa. Pelech was checked behind the Islanders net by Ottawa's Drake Batherson and then clutched his left hand before leaving the ice.
The six-foot-three, 210-pound rearguard has three assists in 16 games this season.
Pelech is in the third year of an eight-year contract that pays him AAV of $5.75 million per season.
