Defenceman Tony DeAngelo is staying on Long Island.
The New York Islanders announced Tuesday they have signed DeAngelo to a one-year contract.
DeAngelo started last season with KHL club St. Petersburg SKA before joining the Islanders in January and had 19 points (four goals and 15 assists) in 35 games.
The 29-year-old from Sewell, N.J., was drafted in the first round, 19th overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014 but never played a game with the club. He was traded to the Arizona Coyotes in June 2016 for a second-round pick.
DeAngelo spent just one season with the Coyotes before he was dealt to the New York Rangers in June 2017 along with a first-round pick in exchange for goaltender Antti Raanta and forward Derek Stepan.

He spent parts of four seasons with the Rangers but was placed on waivers in January 2021 after he was reportedly involved in an altercation with teammate Alexandar Georgiev.
After the Rangers bought out his contract, DeAngelo signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. DeAngelo was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in July 2022 before hitting the open market and signing a two-year contract with the club. After one year in Philly, he became the first player in league history to get bought out twice.
DeAngelo rejoined the Hurricanes on a one-year deal in July 2023.
He has 229 points (52 goals and 177 assists) in 406 career games with the Coyotes, Rangers, Hurricanes, Flyers and Islanders.
