New York Islanders defenceman Ryan Pulock is out four to six weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Pulock missed New York's 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers Tuesday night. Pulock is having a down year thus far with only two assists in 12 games played, and the Islanders as a team are struggling with a 5-6-2 record, last in the Metropolitan Divison.

The 27-year-old signed an eight-year, $49.2-million contract extension in October that kicks in next season.

The Dauphin, Man., native has been a mainstay on New York's blue line since 2017-18 and a key defensive presence for an Islanders team that's gone on back-to-back Conference Final runs.
