The New York Islanders have secured a key member of their defensive unit.
Alexander Romanov signed an eight-year contract extension with the Islanders, the team announced Monday.
The average annual value of the contract is $6.25 million, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
The 25-year-old blue-liner had 20 points (four goals and 16 assists) in 64 games with the Islanders last season. He has finished with a positive plus-minus in each of the last three seasons.
Romanov was drafted 38th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. After playing his first two seasons in Montreal, he was traded to the Islanders during the 2022 draft in exchange for a first-round pick.
The Moscow-born left-shot defenceman averaged over 22 minutes of ice time in 2024-25, the highest of his career.
