One of the top free agent goaltenders is off the market.
Jake Allen signed a five-year deal worth $1.8 million per season to stay with the New Jersey Devils, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Wednesday.
The 34-year old netminder had a 13-16-1 record, 2.66 goals against average, and .906 save percentage in 31 games while serving as the backup for Jacob Markstrom last season.
It was a return to form for Allen, who hadn’t recorded a goals against average below 3.00 since 2020-21.
Drafted in the second round by the St. Louis Blues in the 2008 draft, the 12-year NHL veteran later spent three-and-a-half seasons with the Montreal Canadiens before being moved to the Devils at the 2023-24 trade deadline.
Staying with New Jersey now keeps the veteran tandem with Allen and starter Jacob Markstrom. The team also has Nico Daws on the last year of his deal before he becomes a restricted free agent.
