Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler has entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocols, the team announced Monday.

A player entering the protocols does not necessarily mean they have tested positive for the virus. No further details about his situation were provided at this time and his status for tomorrow's game against the Minnesota Wild is unknown.

Through the first two games of this season, the 35-year-old has one assist.

Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes fifth overall in the 2004 NHL Draft, Wheeler has enjoyed a career that has seen him suit up for 983 regular-season games so far. He's notched 279 goals and 529 assists.
