Winnipeg Jets captain Blake Wheeler will be a game-time decision for Friday’s North Division matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Wheeler skated with the team on Friday morning, two days after leaving Wednesday night’s game against the Leafs with an undisclosed injury.
“He was good in the morning skate today, said he felt good,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said when asked about Wheeler’s status. “We’ll leave it till tonight to make sure he returns feeling the same way. If he feels the same way then he’ll be a player for us.”
In 36 games this season, the 34-year-old Wheeler has 10 goals and 31 points.
In addition to Wheeler’s status, Jets head coach Paul Maurice announced that defenceman Nathan Beaulieu underwent successful shoulder surgery on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season. The 28-year-old hadn’t played since March 9.
The Jets enter Friday’s game against the Leafs second in the North Division standings, three points back of first-place Toronto.
