Winnipeg Jets forward Cole Perfetti will join Canada’s men’s national team for the 2021 IIHF World Championships in Latvia, the team announced Friday.
Perfetti, 19, was selected by the Jets with the 10th-overall pick in the 2020 draft last fall. He has nine goals and 26 points for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose this season, good for sixth in league rookie scoring. The Whitby, Ont., native also represented Canada at the 2021 world juniors, scoring two goals and six points as Canada captured a silver medal.
The 2021 world hockey championships will be held in Riga, Latvia and run from May 21-June 6. Canada opens its tournament against host Latvia on May 21, and will also take on Italy, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Norway and the United States in the preliminary round.
Gerard Gallant is head coach of Team Canada while former NHL goaltender Roberto Luongo is general manager. Team Canada has yet to announce an official roster for the tournament.
