The Winnipeg Jets are ending their pre-season schedule with a loss.
The Jets dropped their final exhibition game 5-2 to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday in Denver, finishing the pre-season 1-3.
The Jets opened the scoring off a Nino Niederreiter power-play goal in the first period, and a Vladislav Namestnikov goal restored the lead in the second period after the Avalanche tied it up.
That was the last time the Jets would be ahead, though, as Colorado stormed back with four unanswered goals over the final period and a half.
Avalanche prospect T.J. Hughes certainly made his mark on the game, finishing with three goals and four points — factoring in on all but one of Colorado's markers. The University of Michigan product played two games with the AHL Colorado Eagles at the end of last season, registering a goal and an assist.
Cale Makar and Jaden Schwartz also scored for the Avalanche.
Presumptive opening-night starter Stuart Skinner played all three periods for the Jets, allowing four goals on 32 shots for an .875 save percentage.
The Jets open their regular season on Oct. 2 against the Boston Bruins.
