Jets' Dylan DeMelo exits game vs. Canadiens with lower-body injury

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dylan DeMelo gets tangled with Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher, leaves game early and will not return for the game.

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dylan DeMelo left Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens and has been ruled out of the remainder of the contest with a lower-body injury.

The injury occurred on his very first shift of the game, early in the first period. DeMelo and Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher appeared to get tangled up and the defenceman looked to be in discomfort when he returned to the bench. DeMelo headed for the locker room shortly after.

Winnipeg, which had already lost forward Paul Stastny to an injury, trailed 2-0 when DeMelo was ruled out. The 28-year-old didn't record any points in the first-round series sweep against the Edmonton Oilers, but logged over 20 minutes of ice time in all four contests, including 37:28 in Game 4.
