Nikolaj Ehlers' night came to a premature end on Friday.
The winger was forced to exit the Winnipeg Jets' game against the Vegas Golden Knights after throwing a hit on Pavel Dorofeyev in the second period.
The hit occurred along the boards in front of the Jets' bench, with Dorofeyev appearing to step on Ehlers' foot as he fell to the ice.
Ehlers, after also falling down, appeared to limp to the bench before eventually heading to the locker room. His final shift came just over six minutes into the period.
After the game, Jets head coach Scott Arniel told the media Ehlers is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will be evaluated Sunday in Dallas.
The 28-year-old, who has battled a handful of injuries throughout his career, is off to a strong start this season, recording 24 points (nine goals and 15 assists) in 23 games heading into Friday's matchup.
The Jets ultimately lost 4-3 to the Golden Knights.
