There is another Connor in need of a contract extension.
Winnipeg Jets sniper Kyle Connor is slated to reach free agency as of July 1 alongside Oilers superstar Connor McDavid.
The Jets forward said he isn't worrying about his contract status as training camp opened on Thursday.
"I'm really just focused on myself and being the best player I can. You know, let the business take care of the business. All I can do is control how I come to the rink every day and that stuff will take care of itself," Connor told reporters on Thursday.
Connor, 28, is entering the final season of a seven-year, $50-million pact.
General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said he's "had great dialogue" with Connor's representation, but there is no timeline for a deal getting done.
"You'd like to have it done yesterday," Cheveldayoff said. "Those are things that you keep pushing towards. Every conversation, you're kind of hopeful that this is the one that closes it. I don't know that it's a timeframe sort of thing. ... It's just working at it."
Connor, of Shelby Township, Mich., has spent his entire career with the Jets since being selected 17th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
He quickly turned into one of the game's most prolific scorers, notching at least 30 goals in every full season since 2017-18 and helping lead Winnipeg to its first Presidents' Trophy last season.
For his career, Connor has 284 goals and 298 assists in 613 games. He's also added 20 markers in 58 post-season contests.
Longtime teammate Mark Scheifele said he'd be there for advice on the contract negotiations if Connor wanted.
"I'm a big fan of his and I would love if he stuck around longer, but obviously I just want the best for him," Scheifele said.
