Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey left Wednesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a lower-body injury and will not return, the club announced.
Morrissey was injured in the first period after blocking a short-range shot from Matthew Knies around his leg area. He appeared to be in pain but was able to skate off the ice on his own, immediately heading to the locker room.
After a 1-0 overtime loss, Jets coach Rick Bowness said Morrissey is being evaluated.
Morrissey, 28, has seven goals and 33 points in 45 games this season, appearing to build upon his breakout campaign last season that saw him pot 76 points in 78 games.
He was selected 13th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Jets. He's averaged 24:32 in ice time this season.
