The Winnipeg Jets hope to start Noah Gregor in the AHL.
The veteran winger was one of four players placed on waivers by the NHL club on Friday.
Gregor, 28, signed a two-year contract with the Jets prior to this season.
The native of Beaumont, Alta. has 40 goals and 39 assists in 330 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers.
Forwards Nikita Chibrikov and Parker Ford, and defenceman Isaak Phillips also were placed on waivers.
Goaltender Thomas Milic was loaned to AHL Manitoba.
The Jets play their season opener Oct. 2 against the Boston Bruins.
