The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed restricted free agent defenceman Sami Niku to a two-year, $1.45-million contract, the team announced Friday.

The 24-year-old rearguard suited up in 17 games for the Jets last season, recording five assists. He also put up 14 points in 18 games for the team's AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

Through 48 career NHL games, after making his debut in 2017-18, the native of Haapavesi, Finland, has collected 10 points.

Niku was selected by the Jets in the seventh round (198th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
