The Winnipeg Jets are adding some depth to their blue line.
They selected Swedish defenceman Sascha Boumedienne 28th overall at the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday night.
Boumedienne tallied three goals and 10 assists over 40 regular-season games for the Boston University Terriers in the NCAA last season.
His draft stock improved even more at the under-18 World Championship, where he picked up one goal and 13 assists in seven games to help Sweden to a runner-up finish. His 13 assists led the tournament, and his 14 points were the second most, behind only teammate Filip Ekberg.
Jets goalie Eric Comrie announced the pick.
Boumedienne is the first defenceman the Jets have selected in the first round since taking Ville Heinola 20th overall in 2019.
The six-foot-one blue liner was the seventh defenceman to be taken at the 2025 Draft.
Prior to joining the Terriers, the Stockholm native played for the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL, where he put up three goals and 24 assists in 49 games during the 2023-24 season.
