A long-time member of the Winnipeg Jets' organization is moving on ahead of free agency.
The Jets traded forward David Gustafsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Jack St. Ivany, the teams announced on Monday.
Gustafsson was a second-round pick of the Jets in the 2018 NHL Draft. He made his debut the following season, registering one goal across 22 games while making 13 appearances for AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose, posting seven points.
Last season, he was limited to just 48 games with the Moose, in which he totalled a career-high 32 points.
St. Ivany, 26, went undrafted after a collegiate career split between Yale and Boston College. Ahead of the 2022-23 season, he signed with the Penguins as a free agent and spent the season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, playing 63 games.
Last season saw St. Ivany play a career-high 20 games in the NHL with Pittsburgh, collecting seven assists.
Gustafsson is set to be a restricted free agent when the market opens later this week, while St. Ivany has one year remaining on a deal that will earn him $850,000 next season.
