One of the Toronto Maple Leafs' biggest acquisitions this offseason, defenceman John Klingberg, will be good to go for the season opener on Oct. 11 after missing a week with injury, coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters Thursday.
The 31-year-old has been day-to-day with an upper-body injury since being pulled as a precautionary measure in a pre-season game Sept. 27 against the Buffalo Sabres.
Sportsnet's Luke Fox reported on Wednesday that Klingberg was set to resume skating and rejoin practices.
The native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Klingberg joined the Maple Leafs during free agency after signing a one-year, $4.15-million contract on July 1.
Klingberg recorded 33 points (10 goals and 23 assists) over 67 games last season split between the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.
