After missing the back half of last season with injury, Kevin Fiala's status for the start of the 2026-27 season remains up in the air.
The Los Angeles Kings announced Thursday that Fiala had undergone a procedure related to a lower-body injury suffered at the Olympics and is expected to miss the start of training camp.
A more specific timeline for his return to play will be determined as he continues to recover, the team said.
Fiala, who represented Switzerland at the Olympics, suffered a fracture in his left lower leg in a game against Canada and immediately underwent surgery.
The Kings winger went down along the boards in the Canadian end with 2:50 remaining in the third period after getting his legs tangled up with Tom Wilson. He was stretched off the ice after being evaluated by medical staff and was taken to the hospital.
In 56 games for the Kings last season, Fiala had 18 goals and 22 assists — in line for his seventh consecutive campaign with 20 or more goals.
Over his 12-year career, the 30-year-old has 229 goals and 299 assists in 707 games, split between the Kings, Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators.
