Kings of the North: Canadiens fans rejoice after sweep of Jets

Tyler Toffoli scored in the opening minutes of overtime as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 to complete a sweep of the series.

From the fourth playoff seed to Kings of the North.

The Montreal Canadiens completed the sweep of the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night with a 3-2 win in overtime.

Tyler Toffoli scored the overtime winner after a slick pass from rookie Cole Caufield just 1:39 into the extra period.

With the second-round sweep, the Canadiens are the first team to book their ticket to the Stanley Cup semifinals. Based on re-seeding, Montreal will now face either the Colorado Avalanche or the Vegas Golden Knights in the third round.

As celebrations got underway in La Belle Province, the irony of the Jets sweeping the Edmonton Oilers in Round 1 -- and now being on the wrong end of the broomstick -- was not lost on many hockey fans after the game on social media.

Several Vancouver fans took to social media to vent about the impact former Canuck Toffoli is having in Montreal this season.

And, of course, the celebration by Canadiens fans again, exactly one week after their Game 7 win over Toronto, brought extra pain to one particular Maple Leafs fan.
