The WHL’s top defenceman has signed an entry-level contract with the Seattle Kraken.
Tyson Jugnauth, 21, signed a three-year, two-way contract with the Kraken on Tuesday. The deal carries an average annual value of $950,000.
The five-foot-11 Toronto native was a fourth-round pick by the Kraken in 2022 and has spent the last two years playing for the Portland Winterhawks.
In 2024-25, Jugnauth was named the WHL’s top defenceman after leading all blue-liners in scoring with 89 points in 65 games. Before joining the Winterhawks, he spent parts of two seasons playing at the University of Wisconsin.
“Tyson had a standout season in the WHL this year and elevated his game in the playoffs,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said in a press release. “We're excited to have him under contract and look forward to his continued development with our organization.”
