The Seattle Kraken have locked down their 2025 first-round pick.
The team announced Thursday it has signed forward Jake O'Brien to a three-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value of $975,000.
O'Brien, 18, was selected eighth overall in the draft this past June.
"We're excited to get Jake signed to his first professional contract," said Kraken general manager Jason Botterill in the team's news release. "Jake has elite vision and hockey IQ, tremendous work ethic and a strong two-way game. He understands this is just the beginning. We're looking forward to his continued development."
Playing for the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs last season, his second with the team, O'Brien recorded 98 points (32 goals and 66 assists) in 66 regular-season games.
The Toronto native added three goals and eight assists in 11 OHL playoff games.
