The Seattle Kraken have signed veteran defenceman Michal Kempny to a one-year, one-way contract worth $750,000, the team announced Monday.
Kempny, 31, played a pivotal role on the top defence pair in the Washington Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup championship run after being acquired at the 2018 trade deadline from the Chicago Blackhawks. During that 24-game post-season run, Kempny tallied two goals and three assists in addition to reliable defensive play.
Kempny sat out the entirety of the 2020-2021 season and split time between Capitals and their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, in 2021-2022 after sustaining numerous lower-body injuries.
Internationally, Kempny has represented Czechia in three world championships in 2016, 2017 and capturing a bronze medal in 2022.
