Kraken's Melanson to have hearing for illegal hit on Oilers' Hamblin

Watch as Seattle Kraken forward Jacob Melanson hits Edmonton Oilers winger James Hamblin with a hit up high and is assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head.

Seattle Kraken forward Jacob Melanson will have a hearing with the NHL's department of player safety regarding his illegal hit on James Hamblin of the Edmonton Oilers during Monday's pre-season game.

The incident occurred with 2:42 remaining in the second period and the Kraken ahead 2-0.

As Hamblin was skating through the neutral zone and looking to avoid Kraken defenceman Michal Kempny, Melanson delivered a hit to the head of the Oilers forward.

Melanson received a 10-minute match penalty.

Seattle added another goal in the third period to shut out Edmonton 3-0.
