Lightning re-sign forward Gemel Smith to one-year, two-way contract

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed forward Gemel Smith to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Smith recorded a goal and four penalty minutes in three games with the Lightning this season. The Toronto, Ont., native has played in 83 career NHL games, tallying 12 goals and 21 points over four seasons with the Lightning, Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins.

In 50 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch this season, Smith posted 22 goals and 40 points, ranking second on the team in goals and third for points.

Smith was selected by the Stars in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, 104th overall.
