The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Ethan Gauthier to a three-year, entry-level contract, as announced by the team on Thursday.
Gauthier was selected by the Lightning 37th overall in the second round of the 2023 NHL draft. They acquired the pick to select the 18-year-old via the Colorado Avalance in exchange for forward Ross Colton.
At five-foot-11 and 175 pounds, Gauthier has played 28 games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season. He's also been an alternate captain for his squad this year as he's recorded 13 goals and 30 points.
Gauthier is in the midst of his third QMJHL season, having spent time with the Sherbrooke Phoenix prior to joining the Voltigeurs. Through 159 games between the two teams, he's racked up 61 goals and 138 points. He's also recorded five goals and 15 points through 22 QMJHL playoff games.
The winger was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but also holds Canadian citizenship.
Gauthier’s contract begins with the 2024-25 season and in the meantime, he will continue to play for Drummondville for the remainder of this season.
