Caleb Desnoyers will be moving to Salt Lake City.
The Utah Mammoth picked Desnoyers fourth overall in the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday in Los Angeles.
Desnoyers, 18, helped lead the Moncton Wildcats to a QMJHL championship this season after piling up 84 points (35 goals, 49 assists) in 56 games. He added nine goals and 21 assists in 19 post-season contests.
Moncton went on to lose to the eventual champion London Knights in the semifinals at the Memorial Cup.
Desnoyers, of St-Hyacinthe, Que., did not make Canada’s world junior team but starred for the country at the U18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with five points in five games.
At six-foot-two and 182 pounds, Desnoyers was No. 2 on Sportsnet analyst Jason Bukala’s prospect rankings earlier in June.
Bukala projects him as a top-line forward who can play in all situations.
