Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews out vs. Jets, considered day-to-day

Sheldon Keefe said that Auston Matthews won’t play Thursday’s game against the Jets after the star forward left practice early.

Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews won't play against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night and is considered day-to-day, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Matthews left the ice before the start of Toronto's morning skate on Thursday for an undisclosed reason. Captain John Tavares took his place on line rushes, filling the spot between Alex Galchenyuk and Mitch Marner.

William Nylander will not play against the Jets either as he remains in the NHL's COVID-19 Protocol. However, with one more negative test, he will be eligible for release for the list and could re-join the Leafs as early as Friday.
