Toronto Maple Leafs fans will be hoping an injury to one of the team's depth forwards is nothing serious with the Stanley Cup Playoffs just over a week away.
Bobby McMann, 27, left Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings with a lower-body injury and did not return to the game.
McMann appeared to suffer the injury late in the first period when his legs got tangled up awkwardly with Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat.
After an overtime loss, coach Sheldon Keefe said the severity of the injury is not yet known.
McMann has been a pleasant addition to the Maple Leafs forward group this season, chipping in with 15 goals and nine assists in 55 games coming into Saturday's action. The Wainwright, Alta., native had just one assist in 10 NHL games prior to this season.
The Maple Leafs signed McMann to a two-year, $2.7 million contract extension in March.
While not official yet, the Maple Leafs are most likely headed for a rematch of last year's second-round series with the Florida Panthers in the opening round of this season's Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Panthers clinched home-ice advantage in Round 1 on Saturday with a win over the Sabres.
